Romania takes over CEI chairmanship
29/11/2008
Romania took over from Moldova the chairmanship of the Central European Initiative (CEI) Friday, said a press release of the Romanian Foreign Ministry. Attending the CEI summit in Chisinau, Moldova, Comanescu said Romania, in carrying out its term in office, will aim to continue to implement the reform of the CEI and consolidate cooperation with the European Union, said Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu, who attended the one-day summit in name of the Prime Minister Calin Popescu-Tariceanu. Romania will support the instruments that emphasize the operational capabilities of the CEI and its potentials as far as cooperation projects are concerned, he stressed.

Bulgaria Ranks 4th in EU by Number of Traffic Related Fatalities
28 November 2008, Friday
Bulgaria ranks fourth in the European Union, only behind Estonia, Greece and Poland, by the number of people killed in traffic accidents per one million of residents, the Bulgarian Minister of Regional Development Assen Gagauzov reported.

Romanians elect new parliament as economy slides

Bucharest - Romanians elect a new parliament Sunday amid an economic downturn that has cost thousands of jobs and could force the next government to take unpopular austerity measures. Polls show Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu's centre-right National Liberal Party (PNL) running a distant third behind two opposition groups, President Traian Basescu's Democratic Liberal Party (PD-L) and the left-leaning Social Democrats (PSD).
With no party expected to win an outright majority, the next governing coalition for the EU and NATO member nation is hard to predict.

Un articol linistit despre alegeri si perspective, atat politice cat si economice. Ambele sumbre, si o nota proasta data datorita cinismului parlamentarilor care au votat in vara impotriva cercetarii penale a fostului prim ministru Adrian Nastase.
